Application Information for Habitat for Humanity

Thank you for your interest in the Habitat for Humanity program. Tulsa Habitat for Humanity builds approximately 20 houses a year that are simple, decent and affordable for limited-income families.

Tulsa Habitat's Family Selection Committee will hold its next Application Seminar on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 9:00 am at the Tulsa Habitat for Humanity office, 6235 E. 13th Street (click address link to display a map).

You are required to attend the Application Seminar as part of the  Application process.

 

Families may print the Application Packet downloaded from this page (see links below under Download Application Packet or click the Packet buttons to the left under

) or pick up an Application Packet at the Habitat office Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30am - 5:00 pm. Applicants must completely fill out the application and furnish all requested information, and then bring the completed application to the seminar.

Application Requirements:
  • Have a housing need and show evidence of a desire to maintain and care for a house.
     

  • Have the ability to pay a mortgage (must show proof of a minimum of between $13,625 and $31,500 a year income for each of the last two years). Be able to provide copies of 2005 and 2006 Income Tax Returns or proof of social security or disability income.
     

  • Must have copies of last two payroll stubs.
     

  • Able to partner (work 500 sweat equity hours by working in the Habitat program on houses, in the ReStore, or attending money management and homeowner workshops.)
     

  • Have lived in the Tulsa Metro area for the last 6 months.
     

  • Must be single, married, or divorced (must provide copy of divorce decree) and NOT separated.
     

  • Be a legal resident of the United States of America (must provide copy of birth certificate, green card or citizenship papers.)
     

  • Be willing to commit to long term loan payments (30 year, no-interest loan.)
     

  • have a record of rent payments (must provide copies of last six months rent receipts or reference letter from landlord.)
     

  • Pay $5.00 credit report fee.
     

  • Provide copies of current utility bills, credit card bills and other current monthly bills.
     

Habitat House Details:
  • Homes built in partnership with a sponsoring church, individual or corporation.
     

  • A three bedroom house has approximately 1040 square feet.
     

  • Houses typically have one bathroom.
     

  • We do not build garages.
     

  • It takes about 12 consecutive Saturdays to build a house (families moving into the house are expected to work each of the twelve Saturdays on their own house.)
     

  • Partner Families select where their house will be located from the lots Habitat has available at the time.
     

  • Most homes are built in North and West Tulsa.

AN APPLICANT MAY ONLY ATTEND THE APPLICATION SEMINAR IF
THEY HAVE SATISFIED
ALL OF THE  FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
 

  • they have obtained an application packet
    (either downloaded from this website or from the Tulsa Habitat office)
     

  • they have completed all application packet documents
     

  •  they have met all of the Application Requirements outlined above
    on this page
     

  • NO EXCEPTIONS!
